She was awarded a BS in chemistry by Nanjing University, and a PhD from Washington University in Saint Louis. She is also active in scientific academy back in China and she organized workshops across the country. The workshops were designed to offer academic writing skills for graduate students who major in science but having difficulties communicating science in English. Her biggest takeaway from this experience is that a better communication for a bilingual scientist can be achieved in embracing the spirit as well as the specifics of general education. To further her understanding on this topic, she got connected with the community of Harvard Graduate School of Education in making sense of general education, as part of liberal arts education curriculum, before she decided to document her findings into films that she’d never done in her entire life. So she made the way through teaching herself to direct and edit a well-recognized video clip as the opener at 2017 Harvard CES, and since then, she set out to produce her documentary film #1. The film is essentially about how to understand the idea of liberal arts education and what liberal arts education means to students from China. She made this film for those Chinese students who fight to rise up through the U.S. education, in particular for those who try to find happiness and meaning of life along the way.
